Lighting, audio and background choices that make a spare corner look like a professional set.

You don't need a dedicated room. A two-metre corner and three smart purchases will transform your talking-head videos.

01Audio first

Viewers forgive soft images but not bad sound. A lavalier or a small shotgun mic close to your mouth is the single biggest upgrade.

02One key light, softened

Place a diffused LED panel 45° to one side, slightly above eye level. Add a white wall or foam board on the other side as fill.

03Depth in the background

Pull yourself away from the wall, add a practical lamp and a plant. Separation creates a premium look.

04Lock your settings

Manual exposure, manual white balance, manual focus on your eye line. Auto modes drift during a take and make edits look patchy.
